The Ethnobotany Group at the University of Hawai’I at Kaua’I presents the 2012 Conservation Ethnobiology Field School.
Basic Skills will be held from January 2-28, 2012, while the Advanced Skills component will run from January 31- February 11, 2012
The Field School provides a unique, hands-on opportunity for individuals needing training in basic field research techniques, including:
- mature community members
- beginning graduate students
- upper-division (junior/senior) undergraduate students
- science instructors
During the Basic Skills Field School you will learn to:
- Collect and analyze basic conservation ecology data
- Conduct and analyze interviews with people from different cultures
- Collect plants and document their distributions
- Observe rare species and analyze the conditions required for their survival
- Live under basic field conditions
- Apply scientific ethics to development of research design
- Work effectively as a team
The Advanced Skills school will teach you how to:
- Analyze conservation biology data
- Identify grant funding sources for support of research
- Conduct independent research leading toward publication
- Work within botanical laboratory (herbarium conditions)
- Work effectively as a team leader
