Council of Elders:

The Council of Elders is a group of long standing ISE members who provide guidance on the direction and substance of ISE projects and activities that fall within individual Council member’s purview.  The Council of Elders is currently made up of six long-term ISE members, three of whom are past ISE presidents. It is anticipated that this group will evolve over time and will include past Board members (as they prefer), longstanding engaged ISE members, Elders, and others with commitment and expertise to offer. Council members may be invited to advise and assist the Regional and Student Representatives with networking; interact with Core Initiative Leaders in a guiding role, as needed; sit on Special Committees as appropriate; and when necessary, act as the neutral party for resolving Society grievances. The ISE Managing Director will facilitate communication between the Council and the other members of the Board and the wider ISE membership. The idea behind this recently established Council is to cultivate a group of advisors with long-term knowledge of the ISE’s vision and history. In particular, by recruiting indigenous advisors and elders to the Council, we can ensure an enduring orientation/contribution to Indigenous perspectives in the ISE’s development, regardless of shorter-term changes in the elected governance of the Society.
