Position Announcement for a Research Specialist in Himalayan Climate Change and Ethnobotany at the Missouri Botanical Garden, St Louis

The position is to conduct research and to manage, analyze, and model data on vegetation dynamics and plant-people interactions with climate change in the Himalayas.  Candidates must be physically fit and able to hike for days and to gather vegetation data at extremely high elevations in severe weather conditions.  Candidates must be familiar with statistical and ecological data analyses and preferably familiar with modeling.  Ability to speak a Himalayan language or Chinese would be an added benefit.  This position is full time, with time split between the Himalayas and the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis.  The candidate will be supervised by Dr. Jan Salick, Senior Curator and work with her and other members of the international team.  Diplomacy, cultural sensitivity and ethnic appreciation are important.  You must feel comfortable and be helpful in situations out of the ordinary.  The position will start before we head to the field in May.  Please contact Jan <jan.salick@mobot.org> and provide your CV, transcripts, publications, and contact information for three references.
