Ethics Toolkit

At the request of ISE members, development of a complementary “ethics toolkit” has recently been initiated to assist in practical application of the ISE Code of Ethics. The ISE ethics toolkit is envisioned as an internet-based resource that contains supporting material for applying the ISE Code of Ethics across diverse cultural and geographical contexts. Some of the planned components include an on-line tutorial to promote familiarity with the ISE Code of Ethics, a collection of case studies that share lessons learned, template agreements, an online discussion forum to share experiences and ask questions, and other educational outreach, communication and training materials to help implement the ISE Code of Ethics.

Promoting Ethical Partnerships

"Since its inception in 1995, ECO-SEA has facilitated the conservation of biological and cultural diversity through partnerships with local, national, and international colleagues. [Their] collaborative ventures stress the equitable sharing of responsibility and benefits. In practical terms, this translates into consortium-based project management teams where local community members have equal standing with national or international researchers." See www.ecosea.org for more details. ECO-SEA is an institutional partner of ISE, and exemplifies the type of working relationships that the Code of Ethics strives to promote.
