The Ebi Kimanani Memorial Fellowship

Dr. Ebi Kalahi Kimanani (1958-2005) was an internationally renowned malarial researcher and biostatistician, who believed in African solutions for Africa’s problems. The travel award in her honor goes to a young, sub-Saharan ethnobiologist whose work best reflects these values, to enable them to share their work at an ISE Congress.

Congratulations to the 2008 Kimanani Fellowship recipient Achille Ephrem Assogbadjo (PhD, Biosciences Engineering). Achille Ephrem Assogbadjo is currently a Lecturer on the Faculty of Agronomic Scinces at the University of Abomey-Calavi, Benin.

The ISE awards a prize for the student member contribution shared at an ISE Congress – paper, video, multi-media, or performance on an ethnobiological these – that best reflects the Societies mission and is consistent with the Code of Ethics. Celebrating the connections between cultural and biological diversity, and working for recognition of traditional knowledge, traditional resource rights, and ethical research practices the world over.

The First ISE Student Paper Prize was awarded during the ICE X sessions. Congratulations to Miyako Koizumi, Graduate Student in Asian and African Area Studies at Kyoto University, Japan.

The ISE Student Prize will resume in 2010.
