The 11th ICE was held in June 2008 in Cusco, Peru

The overarching theme of this Congress was “Local Livelihoods and Collective Bio-cultural Heritage”. Taken as a whole, the theme formed an overall conceptual framework for the interactions between nature and culture as well as allowed focus on the role of Ethnobiology in maintaining biocultural diversity and ensuring rights and equity through participatory research approaches.

The Congress symbol was “Ayni” or Sacred Reciprocity. This is the Mother of all Andean thoughts and the one law of the Andean Mystical Tradition still often witnessed today. It roughly means: If you give you will receive and if you receive you must give back. This is a way of life founded by the Incas which applies to all expression of creation and upon which one’s very survival depends.

Abstracts and videos of the Cusco ICE are available at www.icecusco.net.

Post ICE Cusco Survey

Dear Congress Participants,

As the next Organizing Committee begins preparing for the 2010 ICE, we have put together a survey in order to build on the experience of the recent ICE.  Currently it is only available in English, but a Spanish version of the survey will be available soon!

This survey will take approximately 10-20 minutes to complete. If you are not able to fill out the entire survey, partially answered surveys are still useful to us.

You can complete the survey on-line or download it here. You can also request it as an email attachment at isecoordinator@gmail.com.

Your survey responses will be strictly confidential and data from this research will be reported only in the aggregate. Your information will be coded and will remain confidential. The information you share will only be used to help us improve future ICEs.

Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey.
