Make Donations to the ISE

Chiang Rai, Thailand
The 2006 pre-Congress workshop to revise the ISE Code of Ethics was held at the Mae Chan Resort and Fishing Park, Mae Chan, Chiang Rai, Thailand. The Wilawan family converted rice paddies to fish ponds in an ecotourism venture that reconfigured the local cultural landscape (S. McCandless photo, 2006).

The activities of the ISE contribute to the understanding of human-nature relations, and promotion of harmonious interaction between societies and their environments. Donations of any amount are appreciated. In acknowledgment of your generous support, the names of donors will be listed (with permission) on the ISE website.

Donations can be made to support the general activities of the ISE or one of the following specific activities:

The Darrell Posey Fellowship promotes understanding of peoples’ complex and dynamic relationships with their environment. It supports researchers, and indigenous peoples and local communities working to sustainably manage and secure rights to their environment and resources, through its Small Grants, Field Fellowship and Oxford Fellowship programs. For more information on these programs, see Darrell Posey Fellowship.

The Global Coalition for Biocultural Diversity is the arm of the ISE dedicated to promoting dialogue and exchange between Indigenous peoples, scientists, policy makers, and concerned citizens to develop shared objectives and strategies to nurture the biological and cultural diversity of the earth. The Global Coalition seeks to involve a greater diversity of Indigenous peoples and local community groups in matters concerning biocultural diversity.

The Kimanani Fellowship was established in 2005 in memory of the life and work of Ebi Kimanani, a distinguished Kenyan biostatistician whose work to promote African solutions to the epidemics of AIDS and malaria included a focus on traditional knowledge and ethnobiology. This fellowship will support the costs of attendance at the 2008 ICE for a young African ethnobiologist or ethnobiologists, preferably working on health issues. Click here for more information on the Kimanani Fellowship recipients.

The ISE Student Prize, to be awarded for outstanding contributions by students at International Congresses of Ethnobiology.
